POMPANO BEACH, Fla. — After a smash-and-grab, police found two stolen guns and a stolen car. This led to the arrest of four teens.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office said that a stolen white Kia Forte was driven on purpose into a store on Southwest First Court before 3 a.m. on April 21.
After the accident, three people went into the store and stole three AR-15 semi-automatic weapons. They then drove away in a stolen green Kia Forte.
While following up on the case, the Burglary Apprehension Team (B.A.T.) found the stolen guns and getaway car at a home in Oakland Park. Investigators kept an eye on the house and saw two teenagers leave the house with two guns and get into a black car.
Units were able to stop the car and take the two boys into custody, according to the sheriff’s office. The other two teens were taken into custody soon after.
Detectives said that after the arrests, the two stolen semiautomatic AR-15 weapons and the stolen grey Kia were found. The Oakland Park home was searched by the BSO SWAT team after they got a warrant to do so. Inside the house, there was evidence that linked the teens to the crime.
Investigators say there was a third AR-15, but they haven’t been able to find it yet.
Three of the boys were 17 years old, and the fourth was 16 years old.
All four teens are charged with one count of grand theft of a gun. There are ongoing charges for grand theft auto and armed crime.
