ORLANDO, Fla. —On Monday, the intersection of East Central Boulevard and Lake Eola Drive will be closed so that workers can perform repairs on the intersection.
The city government of Orlando is now implementing extra pedestrian ramps as well as crosswalks that are clearly designated in order to bring the city into conformity with ADA regulations.
Drivers should be prepared for lane shifts, detours, road closures, and sidewalk detours while construction is being done, as these will all take place during that period. These adjustments will be made daily beginning at 7 in the morning and continuing until 5 in the afternoon.
According to WESH 2 News, the city claims that there is a substantial volume of foot traffic in the area, which is the reason why these improvements are required.
“Since the intersection has been a bone of contention for a considerable amount of time, we came to the conclusion that it needed to be fixed. It’s on our high-injury network for pedestrians, so we need to make some adjustments, but we’ve had a lot of feedback from the residents about how they feel about it.
” So, that’s a part of our vision zero-initiative, which is the city’s goal to eliminate traffic deaths by the year 2040,” said Laura Hardwicke, who works in the Transportation Department at the city of Orlando.
“Vision Zero” refers to the city’s goal to eliminate all road deaths by the year 2040. The term “Vision Zero” refers to the objective of the city to achieve complete safety on its roadways by the year 2040.
They have said that the collection of rubbish, recyclable products, and yard debris from the people of that region will continue on their usual timetable.
Drivers that are looking for an alternate route have the option of taking Church Street and Pine Street as a detour.
On July 2nd, it is anticipated that all work will be completed to satisfaction.
