Starting on Monday, the My Safe Florida Home Program will resume its grant program.
The My Florida Safe Home Program, which provides matching grants of up to $10,000 to households who upgrade their homes with hurricane-safe doors and windows or replace their roofs, will get $200 million after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis signed Senate Bill 7028 in April.
According to DeSantis, the bill will prioritize seniors who are waiting on necessary home renovations and will help cut insurance premiums.
Among these modifications is the provision for program applicants to continue receiving inspections in the event that they are not qualified for a mitigation award.
The law would also introduce new or updated rules for homes participating in the program, which would result in additional modifications.
To have a wind mitigation home inspection conducted by a licensed inspector assigned to them by the program, interested homeowners would need to visit the website.
Following the inspection, a contractor designated by the Department of Financial Services may get a grant of up to $10,000 to replace windows, doors, and other components of the structure.
The website states that starting Monday, July 1, homeowners can once again access the portal.
