The car that an employee drove home caught fire while it was sitting in his front yard.
“First of all, it’s a brand-new truck, so I’m wondering how this could happen.” Sheena Daimler said.
About 2,000 miles had been put on the 2023 Chevrolet Silverado. The company, Rockaway Landscaping, owned the truck. It was given to an employee who had just been given a raise.
Greg Burghardt said, “He drove his truck home,” “That was part of the advertising campaign. Around 3 a.m., the door cam caught it on camera, and it started to burn right around the break. The truck just blew up, it seems.”
Most of the time, work cars are kept at the job site.
“If it had happened in our yard, where that truck would usually be parked, there are gas tanks 20 feet away,” Burghardt said. “Busses were behind us.”
The truck’s owner, Burghardt, said he called Chevrolet to find out if there were any recalls or if he should be afraid. He said that he hasn’t heard from them.
General Motors just said that they will be recalling some Chevrolet Silverado cars. According to papers from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it covers the 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD between 2019 and 2023.
The problem is an electrical short in the brake pressure switch, which can cause the circuit to get too hot and make it more likely that a fire will start while moving or in the park.
Since the type at Rockaway Landscaping is a 2500 HD, it is not on the list of vehicles that need to be fixed. Burghardt is still worried, though.
“We need to take this stuff seriously because this truck was made in 2023 and had just over 2,000 miles on it. Who would have thought that thing would blow up?”
We’ve asked General Motors if this kind of model is something to worry about and if they have anything to say about it. We haven’t heard anything yet.
Chevrolet Silverado 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD users from 2019 to 2023 should call 1-800-222-1020 to get in touch with their supplier. N222375270 is GM’s number for this recall.
