The Georgia Bureau of Investigation reports that a shooting occurred on Saturday night at Albany State University’s campus in Georgia during the school’s Homecoming Weekend celebrations, leaving one person dead and multiple others injured.
According to the GBI, the incident took place in a busy area close to a campus performance at approximately 8:50 p.m. De’Marion Tashawn Daniels, 19, was slain, and six others were hurt. He wasn’t a pupil.
A 13-year-old girl from Albany, a 17-year-old female high school student, and a 16-year-old female high school student were among the three victims who were shot.
In addition, a 19-year-old girl was hurt while trying to escape, and a 20-year-old girl was grazed by a bullet. As of right now, no one has been arrested.
“The Albany State University family is deeply saddened to learn of an incident that took place on campus at approximately 8:50 p.m. on Saturday, October 19, 2024,” said Lawrence M. Drake II, interim president of the university. “As always, the safety and security of our ASU students, faculty and staff are the number one priority of this institution.”

According to the university, the GBI is in charge of the inquiry and is receiving support from state and local organizations.
Drake stated that “Albany State University remains committed to providing resources for the mental, emotional, and physical well-being of our campus community,” and that students can access counseling and other resources.
