A boy shot and murdered a 42-year-old man at his home after taking a gun from his backpack, according to police in the Sansom Park neighborhood of Fort Worth.
Over the weekend, the minor was taken into custody. According to authorities, a public release of Ring doorbell video featuring two minors resulted in multiple leads, ultimately identifying the person believed to have pushed the trigger.
Richard Applegate, 42, was allegedly shot and died last month on his front lawn in Sansom Park, according to the police.
Applegate still lives with his mother, and there are still flowers and crosses outside their house. According to Applegate’s family, he was attempting to shield them. During the weekend, there was his funeral.
A juvenile who is linked to the murder is currently being held, according to Sansom Park police, who made this announcement on Monday. Because of his advanced age, neither his name nor age are disclosed. Shortly after an arrest warrant was issued, he was apprehended in Saginaw over the weekend.
“The investigation and the evidence that we come across has led us to only make one arrest in this incident,” Sansom Park Police Officer Tyler Downes stated.

Although authorities claim another young person was present for the murder, he is not currently being prosecuted.
The victim and the two youths are not believed to have known one another, according to Sansom Park police. However, the department has not yet disclosed a motive, only that there was a fight.
“There was some sort of back and forth. I cannot elaborate on the investigation and what the investigation has turned up,” Officer Downes stated. “But we did want to reiterate they were not burglarizing a home, and they are not the same individuals contacted earlier that morning.”
Police in Sansom Park declined to say whether the young suspect resides in Saginaw. They do claim that there was no incident during his arrest.
