A sheriff’s department diving unit in Fresno County found the body of a missing San Jose youngster on Monday, according to police. The teen was last seen in July.
According to the Fresno County Sheriff’s Office, at 2:00 pm, the 15-year-old’s body was found near the bottom of the Firebaugh river. Although his identity has not been confirmed by authorities, the boy’s description, according to the sheriff’s office, fit someone who had been reported missing in the past.
Authorities reported that at approximately 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, there was a probable drowning incident in the river close to 11th and Q streets.
Following their response, the local sheriff’s office and police started scouring the river. On Sunday night, first responders stopped their search, and on Monday morning, they started it again.
The youngster, who was in Firebaugh visiting family, went to recover a ball that had fallen into the river, according to the sheriff’s office. However, the boy was not wearing a life jacket and did not know how to swim.

This was the ninth drowning in Fresno County this year, according to officials, with the third one happening in the San Joaquin River.
