SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. – The Florida Highway Patrol says that a crash early Sunday morning at an intersection in Sumter County left three people badly hurt and one woman in critical condition.
Troopers said that the crash happened at 4:15 a.m. and that it involved a car going east on State Road 44 and an SUV going south on Morse Boulevard.
A crash report says that the car was going very fast when it ran a red light where SR-44 meets Morse Boulevard. This caused it to hit the SUV.
Troopers said that both cars came to a stop on the south side of SR-44, with parts of each car sticking out into the westbound lanes.
The report says that all three people in the car, a 35-year-old man who was driving, a 22-year-old woman, and a 30-year-old man who were passengers, were badly hurt in the crash. Troopers think that none of them had a seat belt on.
Troopers said that the SUV driver, a 32-year-old woman from Wildwood who was wearing a seat belt, was badly hurt.
The story says that all four people were taken to the hospital.
FHP is still looking into the case.
