TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a 79-year-old woman died Wednesday after a young driver crossed into her lane and hit her head-on.
FHP officer Patricia Jefferson-Shaw said that the woman was driving east on State Road 6 in a Nissan Pathfinder when a 16-year-old boy driving west in a Volkswagen Atlas crossed into her lane and hit her car head-on. The PIO said that she died at the scene from her wounds.
About 4:15 p.m., near 2185 SR 6, a fatal crash happened, said FHP public information officer Patricia Jefferson-Shaw. Shortly after the crash, the 16-year-old was taken to Tallahassee Memorial Hospital with “incapacitating” injuries that were too dangerous to treat at home. As of about 7:30 p.m., Jefferson-Shaw said she didn’t know how he was doing.
After the crash, the FHP closed State Road 6 in both ways. The PIO said that traffic was being sent to U.S. 90 and Macedonia Road. But the road has been fixed and is now open again.
Jefferson-Shaw said that neither car had any people in it. The FHP is talking to witnesses at the scene of the accident to learn more about how it happened and move the case forward.
At this point, no one has been charged, but Jefferson-Shaw said that the case will still be looked into.
