Check out Cape Cod if you’re looking for a great deal on a summer vacation. There are more rentals available currently than there have been in a long time, which translates to lower rental prices than normal.
Due to supply and demand, rental prices are declining. According to realtors, many homeowners are giving incentives to fill their summertime vacation rentals since they have a lot of availability.
Vactioners often lock in rentals in the winter or spring, but this year, Pretty Picky Properties’ Blake Decker reports that renters waited until the last minute. Owners are now in competition with one another, driving down prices in order to attract reservations.
“Internally here, I think we are down, on average, somewhere between five and seven percent year over year on pricing. So while most things in life are costing more, your vacation home on the Cape might actually come down this year,” Decker stated.

How to purchase a holiday rental at the greatest price
Decker offers some advice on how to negotiate the greatest price.
- Steer clear of busy times such as the final week of July and the first two weeks of August.
- Establish direct communication with the homeowner; they are more willing to compromise.
- Request a price break. According to Decker, a lot of customers are requesting discounts this summer.
- Be adaptable. You are more likely to find a decent deal if you can go at short notice.
According to Decker, many owners are also accommodating when it comes to minimum stays and have even offered free extra nights. Beach towels and linens are extras that other homeowners are including that weren’t usually included in Cape rentals.
