Officials said Tuesday that two people have been arrested in Colorado in relation to the horrific cold case murder and dismemberment of a California-born lady.
At a news conference Tuesday announcing the charges, Colorado’s Douglas County sheriff, Darren Weekly, stated that the victim, 51-year-old Kimberly Bell, was reported missing by her sister in August 2019.
By late July 2019, Bell had ceased attending work and was living with her sister in Franktown, according to coverage from Colorado’s 9News.
“Unfortunately, there was very little information or evidence in the investigation as to what actually happened to Kimberly,” Weekly stated. “Detectives, however, did not give up and the case was turned over to our cold case team in 2021.”
Although Bell’s sister said that she moved to Colorado “for a fresh start,” it’s unclear when she actually made the trip from California.
Two suspects, 30-year-old Javier “Alex” Martell and 38-year-old Jennifer Bremer, who knew Bell, were found in her rented car at a Denver public transportation parking structure on July 22, 2019, according to Douglas County detectives.
According to Weekly, Martell, who was in the backseat of the car, grabbed her by the neck and dragged her into the backseat when he got angry with Bell, who was in the driver’s seat.
“Martell then told Bremer, who was in the passenger seat, to get in the driver’s seat and begin to drive, as Martell choked Bell,” according to the sheriff. “[He] continued to choke Bell until she was dead.”
Bremer and Martell took the 51-year-old’s body in the backseat of their car and traveled to a number of places, including a Home Depot in Aurora, Colorado.
“At that time, Martell went inside to purchase several items, to include an axe,” Weekly stated.
On Martell’s directions, Bremer also pulled into a petrol station and filled up the car using Bell’s credit card. After that, the two went to a secluded park where Martell is accused of chopping up Bell’s body, placing the pieces in garbage bags, and putting her body parts in the car’s trunk.
The sheriff said Bremer and Martell took the body parts to a local veterinary clinic and dumped them in a dumpster.
“As of this day, Kimberly Bell’s remains have never been found,” Weekly stated. “Despite the grand jury indictment, this case is still ongoing.”

The grand jury indictment indicates that Bell’s internet history contained searches such as “take a tracking system out of a ford focus” and “does phone ping location if off,” according to 9News, even though the motive behind the horrific murder is unknown and investigators did not explain why Martell became “enraged” with Bell.
Bremer, who was released on bond, faces charges of identity theft and accessory to a crime, while Martell, who is being held on $10 million bail, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder.
Colorado authorities are requesting that anybody with information regarding this investigation or who may have known Bell, Martell, or Bremer in 2019 call the Cold Case Unit at the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office at 303-660-7528.
