A married couple from Orlando got arrested this week in connection with a hit-and-run accident that happened over two years ago. The incident, which occurred in September 2021, resulted in the death of Christopher Coffey as he was heading to his honeymoon.

Both Megan and Jeffrey Brannan, aged 32, face charges related to the crash. Megan, who is believed to have been the driver, is charged with leaving the scene of a fatal crash and the scene of a crash involving serious injury.

Jeffrey, her husband, is charged with being an accessory after the fact. According to Volusia County jail records, Jeffrey is still in custody as of Thursday afternoon with a $50,000 bond.

Megan, on the other hand, was released on Tuesday after posting a $75,000 bond, as reported by the Daytona Beach News Journal.

As of now, it’s not clear whether either of the suspects has entered a plea or hired an attorney. Christopher Coffey passed away six days after the crash, just a week after marrying his wife Mary Coffey.

A GoFundMe started at the time by Christopher Moore’s sister Allison Moore stated, “Mary and Chris had the happiest day of their life Saturday, and the worst barely 24 hours later.” “As a son, brother, uncle, and now spouse, Chris is the best guy ever. He is my brother, and I am so grateful for that.”

Christopher’s dad informed News 6 that the couple dated on and off for around 10 years before tying the knot. The newly married couple, who were high school sweethearts from Tennessee, were heading to a cruise for their honeymoon.

Unfortunately, on their way through Daytona Beach, Florida, their Dodge Charger supposedly crashed into the side of their Dodge Ram truck as they exited an on-ramp onto the highway, according to the police as reported by the Herald.

The collision caused the Coffeys’ truck to flip, and the Brannans’ car spun out in the middle of the highway. Allegedly, the Brannans then decided to drive away from the crash scene, according to the police.

In an update on the day Christopher passed away, his sister mentioned that he died alongside his wife Mary, his parents Joel and Angie, and his best friend Jordan.

“There are many broken hearts today,” his sister wrote. “Chris wasn’t a person who just became your friend, he became your family. There are countless stories out there of his kindness, his ambition, and a lot of good laughs. Chris will always be with us through our memories, and his legacy will continue.”
