Hoping to avoid jail time, a South Florida lady is charged in relation to a hit-and-run in Northeast Miami-Dade that sent a mother and her baby son to the hospital.
Judge Marcia B. Caballero of the Miami-Dade Circuit Court saw Sarahy Naybeth Parra-Ovalles on Saturday afternoon. Caballero pronounced, “Ma’am, you’re charged with leaving the scene of a crash with serious bodily injury.”
According to the allegations, Parra-Ovalles, 45, struck the victims with her SUV, replaced the infant in his stroller, and then drove away without disclosing the incident.
According to the allegations, Parra-Ovalles, 45, struck the victims with her SUV, replaced the infant in his stroller, and then drove away without disclosing the incident.
According to Miami-Dade Police, the collision happened on Thursday morning at about 8:30 a.m. in the Aventura Isles area, close to the intersection of Northeast 191st Street and Seventh Avenue. Surveillance footage captured some of it.
In the gated community, Parra-Ovalles was delivering products for Amazon when, according to her arrest report, she drove into the other lane of traffic and struck a mother pushing her stroller and her dog through a crosswalk.
According to the police, the 30-year-old mother lost her balance and the baby fell out of his stroller.
The aftermath was captured on surveillance footage. The driver is seen exiting the SUV, but not for assistance. Cassie Kress, a neighbor, claimed to have heard the infant cry.
“Heard a baby screaming; it was very intense. Then we heard a horn,” she stated. “You can see in the video, she goes over, she checks, she pick up the stroller, puts it upright, puts some stuff in, leaves the stroller, doesn’t even put it on the sidewalk.”
The nurse, Kress, reported that before the rescue teams arrived, she hurried over to assist.
The mother and her infant were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital by paramedics. The mother sustained bruises, a brain hemorrhage, and a fractured skull. The baby’s forehead was cut open.
Parra-Ovalles provided her ID at the guard gate to gain entry into the area, and witnesses helped the detectives identify her, according to the report.
Parra-Ovalles agreed that she saw the woman wheeling the stroller when they questioned her about what had transpired, but she claimed the mother appeared “out of it” and put her hands on the bonnet of her car.

Before Parra-Ovalles drove off, the suspect informed police that she lowered her window and asked the victim if she was okay. The victim nodded.
However, the film captured by the CCTV system presents a different picture. Parra-Ovalles was shown the video by detectives prior to her allegedly invoking her rights and being taken into custody.
She was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center in West Miami-Dade. As of late Saturday night, she had posted bond but was still incarcerated.
According to family relatives, the infant is back at home healing and the mother and child are doing well. They added that although his mother is still in the hospital and in excruciating pain, a full recovery is anticipated.
