New information has emerged about the accident that claimed the life of an eight-year-old boy en route to school.
The incident occurred in Apopka, where a man, identified as Marcus Antone, 38, was apprehended for the collision resulting in the tragic passing of Jayden Miranda.
According to police reports, the collision transpired as Antone was attempting to evade capture after allegedly pilfering items from another vehicle.
Records indicate that Antone was purportedly in the act of theft on Martin Place Boulevard.
The vehicle’s owner attempted to pursue him, but Antone swiftly fled the scene, disregarding a stop sign and driving against traffic before colliding half a mile away, near the junction of North Main Avenue and West Summit Street.
When the collision occurred, Jayden’s mother, who was waiting at a stop sign to make a turn, was struck by Antone’s vehicle.
Official documents reveal that Antone was traveling at a speed of 80 miles per hour in a zone with a posted speed limit of 30 miles per hour.
This equates to covering a distance of 130 feet in a mere 1.11 seconds, culminating in an explosively loud impact that prompted neighbors to rush outside.
The family’s vehicle was propelled a staggering 275 feet across the road.
At the time of the accident, Antone’s driver’s license was already suspended. Additionally, the vehicle he was operating was not properly registered, and the license plate belonged to a different vehicle, the owner of which is deceased.
After the collision, documents indicate that Miranda managed to exit the vehicle, took a single step, and then collapsed. Nearby residents and witnesses reported their attempts to render aid.
Antone is presently facing charges including first-degree felony murder, vehicular homicide, burglary of a conveyance, and driving with a suspended license resulting in death.
