Authorities reported that as police investigate the death of a dog breeder as a homicide, up to ten of his Doberman puppies have vanished.
According to a statement released by the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, the 57-year-old Paul Peavey’s death is being investigated by the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, the 5th Judicial District Attorney’s Office, and the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office. Peavey was last heard from on the evening of August 19 and was reported missing on the evening of Wednesday, August 21.
An adult male’s body was found three days later, just before noon on Saturday, by a privately organized search group, according to authorities.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office stated that later that day, the coroner’s office verified the deceased’s identify as being Mr. Peavey, and officials declared they would perform an autopsy to ascertain the cause and manner of his death.
Doberman dog breeder Peavey was alleged to have had numerous missing Doberman puppies from his estate after his passing, according to police reports.
The Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office stated in their statement that although a motive for the homicide has not yet been established, the location of the puppies is being looked into.
“We can confirm that many puppies are unaccounted for, possibly as many as 10, and we are asking for the public’s help in the following ways,” Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office stated. “The unaccounted-for Doberman puppies may have been sold through social media sites or by other means since Tuesday, August 20. All of Mr. Peavey’s puppies are microchipped. Anyone who purchased a Doberman puppy in the central Colorado area within the last week is encouraged to check the puppy for a microchip and contact the Clear Creek County Sheriff’s Office at 303-679-2393 or [email protected]. We would then be able to determine if the puppy was one of Mr. Peavey’s.”
Authorities further added that “Anyone who purchased a puppy through Mr. Peavey’s business, Elite European Dobermans, since June 2024 is also asked to contact the Sheriff’s Office. Please contact us if you received the puppy that was purchased or if you did not receive the puppy. This will help us determine exactly how many puppies are unaccounted for.”

Police stated that they will provide more material “that does not compromise the investigation or future court proceedings” in due course, even though the probe is still in its very early phases.
Authorities stressed that finding Peavey’s missing puppies might aid in the investigation into his murder.
“We have gotten several tips regarding the puppies that are unaccounted for, and we appreciate all the information that has been sent to us,” authorities stated.
