At the Lemoore Naval Air Station on Monday, Paws of War brought a military working dog and its former trainer back together.
Prior to Aranda’s relocation to Lemoore Naval Air Station last year, Carlos Arana and Military Training Dog Donnie lived together in Norfolk for three years.
“In the navy as a new handler, you don’t really know much they put you with a dog who knows what they are doing, who has been around multiple handlers,” Araneda stated. “He really helped me helped me become the handler I am today he really showed me the ropes I know it’s crazy a dog showing me that.”
Following Aranda’s departure, Donnie sustained a leg injury while on duty, necessitating his medical retirement from the service last month.
Donnie conducted thousands of explosives sweeps during his career, some of which he carried out as part of the US President’s security detail. Upon learning that Donnie was being medically retired, Aranda contacted Paws for War in order to assist him with adopting Donnie.
“I called them, they picked up on the first ring and were immediately happy to help.”
Among the group that drove Donnie from Norfolk across the nation was Nicki Dawson. She claims that’s only the beginning of their enduring pledge to Donnie.

“They are either medically retired or they’re advancing in age and can no longer perform their duties, so what that means is extensive vet bills, we will provide whatever medical care or dining needs for the rest of his life, which is very important,” Dawson stated.
