Downtown Chicago Hosts Vibrant Mexican Independence Day Festival for 2 Days!

This September, downtown Chicago will be the site of a two-day celebration honoring Mexican Independence Day, complete with food, music, and artwork.

Over the course of two days at Butler Field in Grant Park, El Grito Chicago will include a lineup of both local and national performance artists, genuine Mexican food and beverages, and an artisan market.

The all-ages festival is scheduled to take place in downtown Chicago for the first time in almost ten years on Saturday, September 14, and Sunday, September 15. It runs from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Jaime Di Paulo, President & CEO of the Illinois Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, stated in a news release announcing the event, “We are thrilled to work together to plan a festive and organized celebration of Mexican Independence Day in downtown Chicago. Working with our community members and business partners, El Grito Chicago will offer a Grito civic ceremony honoring Mexico’s Independence, live star-studded entertainment, fun, and engaging activities for children, local authentic food and merchandise vendors.”

In addition to food and music, the event’s organizers announced that there will be a kids carnival area and immersive activities from well-known brands and sports teams.

Thursday saw the release of the event’s artist and group lineup, which includes the following lineup:

  • Sin Anestesia
  • El Ejercito Sirreno
  • Banda Los Sebastianes
  • Gerardo Coronel
  • Sonora Santanera

September 14 (Sunday)

  • Grupo Vanguardia
  • Selena the Show
  • Mariachi Monumental
  • Esteban Gabriel
  • Los Sementales de Nuevo León

The El Grito Civic Ceremony will take place in the Mexican Consulate in Chicago at approximately 8 p.m. on Sunday after the actions.

Tickets and entrance for El Grito

For the festival, one-day, two-day, and VIP passes are now available for purchase. Additionally, there is still time to register to attend Sunday’s civic celebration for free.

If an adult has a ticket, children under 10 can enter the festival for free as well. Adults with tickets are permitted to bring a maximum of two children.
