The Los Angeles Police Department reports that early on Saturday, more than 50 cars participated in a street takeover in downtown Los Angeles, with several of them catching fire.
A car that is totally destroyed by fire is shown on camera sitting in the middle of an intersection while a dense black cloud of smoke rises from the car. You can see other automobiles trying to make their way through the flames.
Authorities were called to the area at East 18th Street and Main Street, where two cars had been purposefully set on fire by participants, and the LAPD said that other vehicles had been seized.
Around three in the morning, the LA Fire Department received a complaint regarding an auto fire. Two fire engines were dispatched to the scene, and LAPD officers were also deployed to investigate.
Police stated no one was taken into custody. The event, according to Los Angeles City Councilman Kevin de Leon, is intolerable.
“It angers me, because it puts other people in danger,” de Leon stated.

It is just one more reason why the California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department, and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department joined forces to form a task force to deal with the takeovers.
According to De Leon, the task team will receive even more funds the following month.
“We actually have reduced the number of street takeovers in LA, but particularly in Downtown Los Angeles,” he stated. “But, nonetheless, it has not completely come to a halt.”
No more information has been shared by the authorities.
