A guy in Homestead has been charged with murder after he is accused of killing his 7-month-old baby.
According to an arrest report, Daniel Nasir Griffiths, 23, was taken into custody on Thursday for second-degree murder after acknowledging that he was responsible for the baby’s injuries that led to his demise.
After the child’s maternal grandmother took him in from Griffith’s house at the Key Cove apartment complex, Homestead Police reported that they arrived at Baptist Health Homestead Hospital on October 1.
Days later, on October 4, the infant passed away from a brain bleed and other fractures. According to an autopsy, blunt force injuries caused his death.
Yolanda Felton, the grandmother, stated on Friday that she’s still in shock.
“I have no words, honestly I have no words,” Felton stated. “Very numb, it’s very unreal. You read about these people all the time and then for this to come right in your face, it feels like I’m asleep.”
Felton claimed that after the father claimed the infant would whimper before falling back asleep, her daughter had called and requested her to come get Daniel Nasir Griffiths Jr.
“He said he’s just been acting weird all day, he doesn’t know what’s wrong with him,” Felton stated.
She claimed that after putting her grandson in the car, she realized something was amiss when she noticed bruises on his legs. She took him to the hospital at that point.
“It’s just numbing to know that someone could do that to a child, to a defenseless child, he was someone I trusted,” Felton stated. “Every time I seen him I was thinking about what I lose. To be in my face, to be in the presence, to know that you did this. Like what you are going to do to me, it’s hard.”

According to authorities, Griffiths allegedly gave conflicting explanations for his whereabouts while looking after the youngster during the course of the investigation.
According to an arrest record, Griffiths willingly came to the Miami-Dade Police Department on Thursday to make a statement, nearly two weeks after the baby’s death.
The report claims that Griffiths “knowingly and willingly waived his right to have legal representation and subsequently provided a detailed statement of his actions resulting in the victim’s death and critical injury.”
Griffiths was scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday after being put into jail. There was no information about the attorney. Griffiths was already on probation for a strongarm robbery conviction, according to jail records.
