Following the discovery of a man’s wife wrapped in plastic and duct taped to a board in a cupboard inside a house in Northeast Philadelphia on Wednesday, the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office has elevated the man’s charges to homicide.

Vladimir Lushevskiy, who was detained on suspicion of abusing a corpse, is currently being prosecuted for murder, strangling, tampering with evidence, and obstruction, according to a spokesman for the district attorney’s office.

After being apprehended in South Jersey, Lushevskiy is being extradited to Philadelphia so he can appear before a judge.

On Wednesday, Lola Karabaeva, 61, was discovered in the closet of a house in Philadelphia’s Bustleton neighborhood on the 9000 block of Diplomat Place. On Sunday, friends reported the 61-year-old missing.

Karabaeva’s acquaintances told authorities that they last spoke with her at 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, October 12.

According to authorities, detectives went back to the residence in Diplomat Place on Wednesday in order to continue looking into the issue of the missing person. Police said they found Karabaeva’s body wrapped in plastic inside a closet while searching the house. According to police, medics declared her deceased at 10:13 a.m.

Karabaeva’s cause of death is yet unknown, according to the police. For a few days, police thought she was dead.

Alexander Polevich, a resident of the Bustleton neighborhood, described that, “Lola, she was the most sweetest lady you could ever meet. Most sweetest lady. “I’m just, this whole neighborhood is shooken.”

Investigators are looking into whether Lushevskiy killed Karabaeva on October 12, the son’s birthday, and whether the homicide occurred during a dispute regarding their son’s disappearance and death while hiking in California more than 20 years ago, according to police.

Karabaeva’s death was classified as homicidal violence by the medical examiner’s office.
