Rapper Isaac Freeman III, better known by his stage name Fatman Scoop, passed away on stage following a collapse at a Connecticut show.
According to Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett, the 53-year-old rapper had a medical issue on Friday while doing a performance in Hamden Town Center Park. According to Garrett, he was taken by EMS to a nearby hospital.
Shortly before the crash, Scoop was seen energizing the audience at Hamden’s Green and Gold Party in a concert video. Following his collapse, a group of people gathered around the back of the platform, and another artist was visible leading the audience in prayer.
Birch Michael, Scoop’s tour manager, announced the rapper’s passing on social media. He gave no details on what led to Scoop’s breakdown or demise.

Scoop was remembered by his family as a “father, uncle, and friend” in addition to being a “world-class performer” in a heartfelt social media message.

Scoop’s 2005 song “Lose Control,” which she performed with Missy Elliott, also honored the rapper.
She said on social media,
“Prayers for Fatman Scoop family for STRENGTH during this difficult time,” she wrote on social media. “Fatman Scoop VOICE & energy have contributed to MANY songs that made the people feel HAPPY & want to dance for over 2 decades. Your IMPACT is HUGE & will be NEVER be forgotten.”

Scoop, who was most known for his 1999 smash track “Be Faithful,” also contributed guest vocals for Mariah Carey’s song “It’s Like That.” He was a radio host and hype man in addition to his rap career.

Later this year, he was supposed to play the British music festival Reminisce. Social media users were left “heartbroken” by his passing, according to the festival hosts.
