As Hurricane Helene moves north, some people of Georgia, Florida, and Alabama are preparing for its effects. According to the evacuated, they are ready for anything that could happen.
Bristol, Florida evacuee Lucas Barber stated that, “Like I said, we stayed through Michael. We tried to ride it out and we ended up losing our house. So, it was just a pretty scary time. So, we decided on this one not to risk it.”
Barber clarified that his family did not take any chances with Helene after losing their home to Hurricane Michael.
“It was kinda tough, you know,” Barber remarked. “I was in high school at the time and stayed on some friends’ couches, with some family. Till we could figure it out.”
They’re heading as far north as they can, according to Barber. He had one bit of advice for anyone who was on the fence about staying or leaving.
“It can change, just like Michael. It strengthened overnight. You know, we didn’t think it was gonna be anything serious. We woke up, and it was a high category four. So, it’s, you know, even if you don’t think it’s gonna be anything serious, I would recommend leaving,” Barber stated.
In an attempt to avoid the hurricane, Charlie Scott is traveling nonstop from Thomasville, Georgia to Prattville, Alabama.
“Instead of sticking it out at home, just trying to get away from the hurricane,” he stated. “This one’s supposed to be really aggressive, so wanted to try and keep my family safe.”

With his daughter in the backseat and his dog riding shotgun, he pulled over for petrol. One thing, according to Scott, helped him decide whether to stay or leave.
“That’s gotta be your top priority- if you think there’s like, any possibility that your kid’s gonna be in danger or in a less-than-ideal situation, then go ahead and get out of there,” Scott stated.
Scott stated that staying put would not be worth the danger during this cyclone.
