Police reported that when Polina Wright was shot once in the head and died in Martin County, her family was in mourning. 25 was her age.

Leslie Boileau, a Martin County Sheriff’s Office deputy who is her boyfriend, reported the shooting was unintentional to 911.

He apparently said to police officers, “I know this looks bad.”

The Ocala Police Department reports that Boileau, 32, informed authorities that the incident occurred at home while they were both cleaning and dry-firing guns.

Julia Dawson posted on Facebook, “Polina was a beacon of light to all that knew her; she was the most loving and caring person that we know.”

The incident happened on Thursday evening. A 9mm Glock and a rifle that were on the dining table were taken by detectives from Wright’s lap.

Boileau was taken into custody by police, and manslaughter charges were brought against him by Martin County prosecutors. Boileau appeared in county court on Saturday for the first time.

Boileau worked for the Martin County Sheriff’s Office for almost eight years before losing his position, according to the Ocala Gazette. According to the Ocala Star Banner, retired deputy Stacy Youmans, a circuit judge for Martin County, set the bond amount at $30,000.

Wright’s memorial service is scheduled for this Friday at the Seven Rivers Church in Lecanto, organized by his family and friends.
