Florida Man Arrested for Assaulting Pregnant Partner, Wielding Gun in Front of Children

PAHOKEE, Fla. — A man who was intoxicated has been arrested after being accused of dragging his pregnant girlfriend and brandishing a gun in front of her two children.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office (PBSO) apprehended the man without incident when they found him a block away from his girlfriend’s residence. He was standing with his hands raised, emitting a strong odor of alcohol, and claiming that his girlfriend was lying about the incident.

The man, identified as 31-year-old Robert Williams, is now facing charges of aggravated assault with intent to commit a felony, aggravated battery against a pregnant victim, displaying a firearm during a felony, and possession of a weapon as a convicted felon.

According to reports, the 34-year-old girlfriend had asked Williams for some water because she was thirsty. However, he informed her that he did not have any money as he planned to go out drinking with his friends.

In response, the girlfriend threatened to slash the car tires, which belonged to her. Williams disregarded her threat and returned home later that day in an allegedly heavily intoxicated state. Upon seeing the flat tires on the car, he became extremely angry, as described by the girlfriend to the deputies.

According to the affidavit, Williams proceeded to drag the pregnant woman by her hair throughout the house while she screamed in pain, pleading for him to stop.

Before taking her outside, Williams paused at the front door and brandished a gun in front of the woman, as well as her two young children, aged 10 and 7, who were present in the living room.

After this disturbing incident, Williams abruptly left the house. The victim immediately contacted the authorities and recounted the events, which were corroborated by visible abrasions found on her temple and scalp by the responding deputies.

PBSO deputies questioned the girlfriend about the flat tires, initially denying any involvement in slashing them. However, she confessed shortly afterward.

With permission from the girlfriend, deputies conducted a search of the residence and discovered the handgun described by her in a nightstand drawer in the master bedroom. The handgun was loaded, but no bullet was found in the chamber. Upon further investigation, it was revealed that the handgun had been reported stolen.

Williams has a criminal history that includes three prior felony convictions, with the most recent one occurring in September 2021.

He was granted a bond of $25,000, and his next court hearing is scheduled for July 24th.
