A startling find was made by South Florida scuba divers when they came across 25 bricks of alleged cocaine valued over $1 million, 66 pounds in weight, and tagged with phony Nike SB emblems.
Authorities in Florida said in a statement on Wednesday, June 5, that divers investigating the waters off Key West discovered what at first they thought to be trash on the ocean floor. But as it turned out, it was more than twenty bundles of suspected cocaine, each carefully wrapped.
Police were called to the Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo at approximately 12:25 p.m. following the shocking discovery of the 25 bricks of suspected cocaine, which were wrapped and marked with fake Nike SB logos (featuring the iconic swoosh logo of the well-known footwear brand) and stuffed inside a large black garbage bag.
The 25 bricks of possible cocaine, each weighing one kilogram (2.2 pounds), were found in the Atlantic Ocean approximately 100 feet below the surface.
The U.S. Border Patrol later received the suspected drugs after the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office arrived to the site.
A photo of the scuba divers’ discoveries was posted on Facebook by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, along with the following statement: “Twenty-five individually wrapped kilograms of suspected cocaine was found by scuba divers Wednesday in approximately 100 feet of water in the Atlantic Ocean. The Sheriff’s responded to the Rainbow Reef Dive Center in Key Largo at approximately 12:25 p.m. where divers stated they were removing what they thought was trash when the discovery was made.”
The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office’s post further stated that, “The Sheriff’s Office turned over the suspected narcotics to the U.S. Border Patrol.”
