Groom Arrested After Wedding Reception Fight Ends in Shooting

Nobody attending the wedding celebration will quickly forget it, especially the man from Indiana who was shot during it.

On May 18, when Indiana State Police responded to a plea for assistance regarding a potential drunken shooting during a wedding reception held at Cornerstone Hall, Corey Parker, the groom, and Jonathan Goff, a guest, were taken into custody and charged.

According to local NBC affiliate WAVE, police stated that a lady at the wedding called 911 first, claiming that Parker had shot her boyfriend during a dispute with another man—later identified as Jonathan Goff—during the wedding.

Parker allegedly told police that his fiancée had departed with Goff’s wife and returned to the Cobblestone Hotel. Parker claimed that after Goff was accused of making advances toward another lady during the wedding, a fight broke out between him and his own wife.

Parker then made the decision to go, according to the police, and Goff and Parker soon got into another argument. The men started pushing each other. Parker allegedly told police that when Goff began successfully breaking into his car, he was already inside, with a gun stored in the center console.

The gun went off at what the groom called a “rustle and bustle” moment, striking a man in the reception hall in the hand. Later, the man was admitted to the hospital.

According to the police, the woman who reported the disturbance at the party that night to them was his girlfriend. Parker allegedly told police he didn’t mean to shoot the man.

Parker and Goff were accused with felony criminal negligence involving a deadly weapon and battery causing bodily harm, according to court documents.

On May 20, both guys appeared in court for the first time after posting $3,000 bail each. Both of them pleaded not guilty. Parker was given a no-contact order, and the Washington County Circuit Court consented to the men’s pretrial release. September 3rd is the date of the trial.
