Fort Lauderdale police officers responded to a trespassing complaint at Dillard High School, prompting a lockdown. They made an additional concerning discovery on the campus Friday morning.

According to police spokesperson Casey Liening, officers initially received a call to investigate two unauthorized juveniles on the school grounds, located at 2501 NW 11th St., just before 10 a.m.

The school was placed on lockdown, and the two individuals were detained.

Then, at 11:20 a.m., while still on campus dealing with the trespassing incident, police were alerted to a student who was suspected of potentially having a gun.

Liening stated that the school remained on lockdown while officers located the student, who was found not to have a gun at that time.

However, shortly afterward, during a campus search, officers discovered a gun.

She clarified that the two incidents were unrelated, and as of Friday afternoon, the agency’s Threat Response Unit was conducting an investigation. A 17-year-old student was observed from Sky 10 being taken away in handcuffs.
