A suspect in a carjacking was apprehended on Friday after he stole a van belonging to an electrical contractor in downtown Jacksonville.
Law enforcement officials reported that the Columbia County Sheriff’s Office disclosed the incident, stating that the man took the van from a McDonald’s restaurant on East State Street in the downtown area.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office initiated the pursuit.
The Baker County Sheriff’s Office joined the pursuit as it continued west on Interstate 10. Eventually, the CCSO deployed spike strips in front of the van.
The suspect drove over them, but despite having flat tires, he continued onto Highway 441 north in Columbia County.
Ultimately, a deputy from the Baker County Sheriff’s Office brought the suspect to a halt by ramming into the back of his car, causing him to spin out and stop.
Fortunately, no officers were injured during the pursuit.
As of now, there is no additional information available regarding the suspect or the charges he will face.
