A mother from Harlem who is suspected of killing her 4-year-old kid showed up in court on Wednesday. Nytavia Ragsdale, 26, was taken into custody on Monday and accused of endangering the welfare of a child and criminally negligent homicide.
Her accusations have now been enhanced to include endangering the welfare of a child and manslaughter in the second degree. The bail amount was $100,000.
Prosecutors claim a Harlem boy died from chronic malnourishment
According to the police, Ragsdale contacted 911 over the weekend to report that her child was not responding. After officers arrived at their apartment at the intersection of Adam Clayton Powell Jr. Boulevard and West 144th Street, they took the boy to the hospital, where authorities say he passed away.
The cause of death, according to the prosecution, was acute malnourishment, and the illness seemed “chronic.” The 4-year-old youngster, according to the prosecution, was so small that he did not register on any growth charts when he passed away, weighing only 19 pounds.
Three of the child’s older siblings are currently receiving malnourishment treatment at the hospital. According to prosecutors, they are so feeble that they are unable to even chew solid food when hooked up to IVs.

Prosecutors stated in court that the four kids had spent the majority of their lives in seclusion and had never gone to school.
Police said the boy’s father, Laron Modlin, 25, had a medical condition, which led to his arrest and hospitalization on Tuesday. His arraignment is still pending.
