According to authorities, a toddler in Southeast Washington, DC was killed in a “exchange of gunfire” while she was inside a car. According to authorities, the incident happened on Friday night at around nine o’clock.
The little child was involved in a “exchange of gunfire,” according to preliminary investigations, and is not thought to have been the “intended target,” Metropolitan Police Department Commander LaShay Makal stated at a press conference.
Ty’ah Settles, the three-year-old, has been recognized.
Ms. Makal stated that she is thought to have been in the car with a family member. It’s unclear how many suspects are involved right now. No motive or suspects have been discovered.
The commander stated that because the police station is located just around the corner from the scene of the shooting, officers were able to get to the scene “immediately” and carry out “life-saving measures.”
After being brought to a hospital, Settles was later declared deceased.

According to the police, “multiple shell casings” were discovered between Hartford Street, SE’s 2200 and 2400 blocks.
Upon visiting the horrific scene, DC council member Trayon White Sr. stated to the Washington Post, “Anytime a baby gets shot, man, somebody needs to be brought to justice.”

He continued, “It’s intolerable that we allow this to happen in our community over and over again.”
The chief of police confirmed this opinion.
“This is an absolute tragedy. It’s unacceptable. A three-year-old little girl lost her life today,” Ms. Makal stated at the press conference before asking for information from the public.
