INDIAN RIVER COUNTY, Fla. — Law enforcement concluded a high-speed pursuit that led to the confiscation of over 32 lbs. of drugs. The Indian River County Sheriff’s Office (IRCSO) reported that the incident took place on Thursday night when a Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) trooper sought assistance from the sheriff’s office to apprehend a fleeing car.
The car was racing at speeds exceeding 100 mph on State Road 60 (SR 60), approximately one mile west of I-95, according to the sheriff’s office. During the chase, the car eventually came to a halt on the side of the road, prompting the two occupants to flee into a densely wooded area.
Responding to the situation, multiple deputies, the FHP trooper, the IRCSO aviation unit, and the Vero Beach Police K-9 unit surrounded the area to establish a perimeter.
Law enforcement successfully captured 19-year-old Normanda Grenion, and with the help of a K-9, they located, apprehended, and bit 28-year-old Romario Black shortly after. Upon searching the duo’s car, authorities discovered 30 lbs. of methamphetamine and approximately 2.2 lbs. (1 kilogram) of cocaine concealed inside.
Both individuals were arrested and taken to the Indian River County Jail as confirmed by the sheriff’s office. Romario and Grenion are now facing several felony charges, including reckless driving, fleeing/eluding, possession, and trafficking of controlled substances. Romario’s bond is set at $226,000, while Grenion’s is $57,500.
Sheriff Eric Flowers emphasized the significance of collaborative efforts among multiple agencies in combatting drug-related issues, safeguarding the community, and saving lives.
He sternly warned drug dealers against attempting to introduce harmful substances into Indian River County, reiterating that such actions will not be tolerated.
