Authorities announced on Tuesday that a Homestead man had been taken into custody after they said he had fired 23 shots from several pistols while in a residential area early on Sunday morning.
According to Homestead police, a ShotSpotter activation revealed that 23 shots had been fired, prompting the dispatch of officers to a Homestead area. The neighborhood’s address was withheld from the publically available arrest report.
When police arrived, they found 18 shell shells in a parking lot and saw damage to numerous residences’ external walls and windows, as well as bullet holes in the inside walls and furniture.
The suspect, identified by detectives as 22-year-old Tony Darnell Evans, was seen “recklessly displaying two semi-automatic firearms while on the second floor of a building,” according to surveillance video evidence.
Evans was then observed, according to the police, making his way to the first level and approaching the victim while carrying two pistols that were visible in his jeans’ front pockets.
Soon after, the two got into a heated altercation in the courtyard. According to the police, this argument got worse when Evans hit the victim in the head with the gun’s butt, cutting the victim’s forehead.
Investigators added that Evans was seen sprinting into his flat while holding both of his pistols in the CCTV footage.
Evans was positively recognized as the incident’s suspect by the victim and a witness, who also gave sworn written statements to Homestead police. The authorities reported that photographic lineups were created.
Evans was located and taken into custody at his home after a search warrant was executed by a Miami-Dade Police Department special response squad, according to the report.
Within the house, four semiautomatic rifles, a.223 rifle, a 50-round drum, a 100-round drum, three.223 round magazines, a.223 bullet, nine 9mm bullets, two extended magazines, and four 9mm magazines were found, according to the authorities. Investigators claim that every item was seized as evidence.

After that, Evans was brought to the Homestead Police Department to be questioned, but the report states that he refused to talk to the detectives.
According to jail records, he is charged with one count each of improper display of a weapon or firearm and aggravated battery with a firearm or dangerous weapon causing bodily harm.
Evans’ bond is still pending at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where he was being held as of Tuesday.
