After New York Democrats, along with those in New Jersey and Connecticut, began indicating their support for Kamala Harris’s presidential run, the political deck began to move in her favor.
Gov. Kathy Hochul quickly abandoned her support of Joe Biden in favor of siding with Harris.
“What I’m so excited about is drawing the incredible contrast between our expected nominee, Kamala Harris, vice president, and the former president. I mean, just consider the following: a prosecutor against a convicted felon,” Hochul stated.
The governor spoke as legislators from Connecticut, New Jersey, and New York started to align themselves behind the vice president. Sen. Cory Booker of New Jersey uploaded a photo of himself holding Harris. She will be meeting with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer to discuss party unity.
“Vice President Harris has excited the community. She has excited the House Democratic Caucus and she’s exciting the country,” Jeffries stated.

Mayor Eric Adams joined in as well, and the Tri-State Area governors arranged Zoom sessions with their delegates. According to Jay Jacobs, chairman of the New York State Democratic Party. “We want to make sure that as many of our delegates as possible will be supporting the vice president.”
“The fact that Gov. Hochul and Chairman Jay Jacobs are bringing everyone together so quickly really speaks to the need and the recognition of the importance of the urgency at state to build on the enthusiasm we’re seeing,” Democratic National Committeeman Robert Zimmerman stated.
