A federal prison sentence of one year and one day was imposed on a man from Los Angeles County for fabricating reports of terrorist attacks against military installations in Southern California.
In February, Daniel Sandoval, 29, of Santa Fe Springs, entered a guilty plea to one count of hoaxes and false information after sending eight tips to the U.S. Department of Defense, “falsely claiming that certain women were about to perpetrate mass-casualty attacks at U.S. military facilities in Los Angeles and Orange counties,” according to a news release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
Sandoval sent the DOD eight online reports between March 21 and March 23, 2021, each of which identified one of several women allegedly involved in large-scale attacks at locations such as a Bell Gardens military hospital and a U.S. Navy weapons station in Seal Beach.
For example, according to the release, Sandoval’s initial tip informed police that a woman who was only named as “S.C.” in court filings intended to “[blow] up military vehicles stationed [at the Seal Beach site] and civilian personnel vehicles.”
Sandoval acknowledged that he “substantially disrupted public and government functions and services,” including requiring evacuations, as part of his plea deal.

In a sentencing letter, prosecutors stated that “[Sandoval’s] unlawful conduct harmed not only the military bases he targeted and the personnel living or working on those bases, but also harmed the innocent women who he claimed were perpetrating these dangerous threats.”
