At a polling station in Orland Park on Sunday morning, authorities claim an Illinois man attacked an election judge, leading to his arrest.

According to the Orland Park Police Department, officers were dispatched to the Orland Park Township Office, which is situated in the 14800 block of Ravinia Avenue, at approximately 11 a.m., after receiving reports of a man disrupting the voting line.

Officers discovered a man, identified as Daniel Schmidt, 24, inside the building being held down by several individuals.

According to reports, Schmidt entered the building and passed a long line of other voters who were waiting to enter the voting area. Schmidt refused to wait his turn at the back of the line, as instructed by an election judge stationed at the entrance.

Another election judge was called in at that point to help defuse the scene.

Despite being instructed once more to move to the rear of the line, Schmidt attempted to push past the election judge. Investigators say that a number of other workers intervened and stopped Schmidt from entering.

Schmidt then reportedly began shouting obscenities and struck an election judge in the face, causing their glasses to fall off, according to the police.

Schmidt was then restrained until police arrived by a number of other customers who jumped in to assist.
