Isabel Tabares spoke during the sentencing hearing for her daughter’s killer in a Broward County courthouse while crying and using a Spanish interpreter.
“The day this woman took my daughter’s life, she took my life with her because she was my all,” Tabares stated.
In June, Yvonne Serrano, 56, was found guilty of second-degree murder in connection with the 2019 death of Daniela Tabares, 21. A judge sentenced her to life in prison on Monday, with a minimum of 25 years required. According to the police, Tabares was shot by Serrano outside of her Coral Springs residence.
After they had spent the evening drinking with their gym friends, Tabares had volunteered to take Serrano home by car. While Tabares’ car was parked in Serrano’s driveway, her body was discovered shot and unconscious halfway out of it.
“She was familia,” a friend stated. “That’s how we referred to each other at the gym and she was the best of us.”
Emotional statements were delivered in court by family, friends, and fellow gym patrons.

“For nearly five years, we have been grieving,” another friend stated.
On behalf of Serrano, her loved ones also spoke.
“We respectfully ask the court for leniency,” Serrano’s daughter stated.
She’s never had anything to say, according to Isabel Tabares. This woman’s visage perfectly captures everything I’ve described: she is heartless, insensate, and unconcerned with human life.
If Serrano so desires, she has 30 days to challenge the sentence.
