Following reports from the police that she fled a crash that resulted in two fatalities and two injuries in downtown Miami over the weekend, the woman is being charged with multiple felonies, with more charges possibly to follow.
According to a Miami Police Department arrest record, onlookers had to seize the accused driver, Maecee Marie Lathers, 24, and return her to the scene early on Saturday morning.
She shouldn’t have been driving in the first place, according to the police; her license has been revoked since January 16.
Just after 6:45 a.m., according to the police, Lathers, of Miami Gardens, was traveling south on North Miami Avenue in a white Mercedes sedan when she ran a red light at Eighth Street and collided with a black Range Rover being driven by a 24-year-old man.
A Suzuki sedan carrying three persons was then struck by both cars, according to the police. According to the arrest record, the driver of the Suzuki passed away at Jackson Memorial Hospital, and the back passenger died at the scene.
The Range Rover driver suffered minor injuries, while the other passenger was brought to JMH with cuts to his arm and face, according to the police.

According to the police, Lathers would also be taken to JMH, but not before she began to leave the crash scene without offering assistance or phoning 911.
Lathers was eventually taken into custody by police on eight criminal counts, two of which were fleeing the scene of a fatal collision. A DUI toxicology test was pending, according to the report.
Lathers stayed hospitalized in JMH’s Ward D, according to Miami-Dade jail records. As of Monday afternoon, her bond had not been set, and her mug image was not accessible.
