An indictment was filed against a guy from Long Island who was accused of dismembering a woman’s body and dumping the pieces in three different places in Patchogue.
Gary Cowell, 72, of Patchogue was charged on Monday by Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond A. Tierney with unlawful concealment of a human corpse and tampering with physical evidence after it was claimed that Cowell had dismembered the remains of a 56-year-old lady from Patchogue.
“This defendant has been indicted on charges related to the alleged dismemberment of a deceased individual,” District Attorney Tierney stated. “I commend the Suffolk County Police detectives for swiftly locating the victim’s remains. The investigation as to cause of death continues. We want to assure the victim’s family and the public that we are committed to pursuing justice through the proper legal process.”

The inquiry states that on June 18, 2024, police enforcement received a report about a woman who was reported missing on June 13, 2024, and has not been seen since.
Cowell, who was purportedly the last person to see the victim alive, was questioned by detectives. Cowell went with the detectives who found the severed remains after the interview.
From Cowell’s Patchogue home, detectives are said to have retrieved more evidence in addition to the axe that was used to dismember the body.
The medical examiner has not yet determined the cause of death; the investigation is still ongoing. Cowell is being jailed on a $1 million cash bond and is scheduled to return to court on July 25, 2024.
