MIRAMAR, Fla. – Marlie Casseus is embracing happiness on an exceptionally special day.
The 31-year-old, who has faced multiple surgeries and endured years of media attention, is now getting married.
Although her physical health has continued to decline and she’s no longer able to walk, her close friend of many years, Billy Wyatt, is stepping into the role of her husband.
“What truly amazed me was her heart, and that’s what touched me the most,” Wyatt shared.
Gina Eugene, a nurse, remarked, “The happiness that Billy brought into her life was like having an angel around.”
Casseus initially came to South Florida from Haiti at the age of 14 for surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital to remove a 16-pound tumor from her face. This tumor affected her ability to eat and breathe, but those close to her say it didn’t dampen her spirit of optimism.
“I was truly astonished,” Wyatt recalled. “Her story deeply moved me at that time. We started sending her gifts, assisting with school supplies, and that was 15 years ago. Our connection grew naturally.”
After following Casseus’ story on the news all those years ago, Wyatt has not only provided her with financial support but also emotional strength.
The bond between the two has remained strong ever since.
