In front of her toddler, a Florida man who was on pretrial release due to domestic abuse and had been told to keep away from his girlfriend killed her with a knife, leaving the young child in their home alone with his mother’s corpse.
The 12th Judicial Circuit State Attorney’s Office said in a news release on Thursday that Orestes Figueredo-Ortega was found guilty of second-degree murder with a weapon in the killing of 21-year-old Delmy Teyul Ba.
“We are pleased with the jury’s verdict holding the defendant responsible for his brutal and fatal attack on this victim,” Assistant State Attorney Charlie Lawrence stated. “Domestic violence is a prevalent issue in our community, and this case is a heartbreaking example of the problem. Law enforcement’s quick response and investigative techniques led to the defendant’s timely apprehension. Delmy Teyul and her family have obtained justice for her senseless death.”
On September 17, 2020, Teyul Ba passed away at the Sunset Mobile Home Park in Bradenton, Florida, which is located south of Tampa on the Gulf of Mexico coast. Prosecutors alleged that Figueredo-Ortega skipped work that day in order to see Teyul Ba being active while he was meant to be at work. The two got into a fight. It became corporeal.
She was choked by Figueredo-Ortega. She managed to release herself. Prosecutors alleged that he took a knife and stabbed her three times in front of her toddler.
At 12:46 p.m., deputies responded to a 911 call, according to a detective with the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office who made a sworn statement outlining the case.
Deputies arrived and discovered Teyul Ba dead on the kitchen floor. She had suffered five stab wounds to her thighs, abdomen, and chest. She sustained defensive wounds to her back and left forearm.
There was no murder weapon discovered. The 911 caller reported that Teyul Ba had stabbed herself and that Figueredo-Ortega had called to inform her to dial 911. According to the paper, she claimed to have discovered her dead when she got to the house ten minutes later.
According to the authorities, security footage from the mobile home park shows Figueredo-Ortega’s Chevrolet Cruze arriving at 11:09 and departing at 11:19 that morning.
