Melania Trump missed both the Trump family Christmas party at Mar-a-Lago and the New Year’s Eve celebration. The former First Lady has a valid reason for her absence from public events at the moment, and her husband, Donald Trump, is addressing the somber family news.
The former president stated that his mother-in-law, Amalija Knav, is “very ill” and is presently receiving treatment in a Miami-area hospital during remarks he made in public at his Palm Beach, Florida club. These remarks were recorded by a social media user on X.
In front of an audience, Donald Trump stated, “Hopefully she’ll be recovering,” while on stage wearing a tux. Additionally, he disclosed that he had recently spoken with Melania over the phone, but Donald Trump didn’t seem to be particularly upbeat about Melania’s mother’s condition. He continued, “That’s a tough one, a very tough one, but hopefully it’ll be OK.”
Donald Trump mentioned that Melania sends her love to the audience, as she is acquainted with about 95 percent of the people in the room.
He then shifted focus to his mother-in-law, expressing well wishes for her recovery: “We just want to wish Amalija that she gets better as quickly as possible.” Unfortunately, this unexpected situation is likely to delay Melania’s reported plans to join her husband on the campaign trail.
The 53-year-old former model has maintained a low profile since leaving Washington, D.C., in 2021, primarily dedicating her time to her 17-year-old son, Barron. With Barron heading off to college in the fall, Melania had anticipated contributing to Donald Trump’s 2024 presidential campaign.
However, family remains a priority for Melania, and as a source shared with Fox News Digital, “It should be no surprise that she spent this Christmas with her ailing mother.”
As a result, it seems Donald Trump may be navigating the early stages of 2024 without Melania by his side. While this may not have been part of the initial campaign plans, he understands and respects Melania’s decision to prioritize her mother’s health over his political ambitions.
