A local rapper in Miami’s Wynwood neighborhood was assaulted by her manager and driver. In response, she shot her manager. Kevhani Camilla Hicks, known by her rap name Key Vhani, faces second-degree murder charges with a weapon. As of Thursday, the 27-year-old is still in custody.

According to a Miami police report, around 1:30 a.m. on Monday, Hicks, her manager, and the driver were in a white Lexus near Wynwood Walls.

Witnesses and surveillance footage show Hicks exiting the car and heading towards the trunk, with the driver appearing visibly upset. An altercation ensues between them.

The manager also gets out of the car and joins in assaulting Hicks. After the attack, Hicks shoots the manager multiple times. The driver then flees the scene, hitting Hicks with the Lexus in the process.

Miami officers arrive soon after, finding the manager with several gunshot wounds.

He succumbs to his injuries. Both Hicks and the man are taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center. Hicks is treated for non-life threatening injuries.

After her arrest, Hicks explains to officers that the initial conflict started when she asked the driver to open the trunk, leading to a physical altercation in the car.

Later, when the two men attacked her outside the car, the driver intervened, allowing her to retrieve her gun. She states that the manager continued threatening her, prompting her to shoot him.

Attempting to flee, she notices the manager’s anger and interprets his posture as a threat, leading her to fire additional shots.
