Just minutes after dismissing her final class of the day, a Maine teacher gave birth in the school parking lot as her contractions grew more intense.
When Tori Hildreth first arrived at work on October 8, she had no intention of meeting her daughter. However, as the day progressed and her contractions became more severe, she was forced to give birth in the Old Town High School parking lot.
According to local sources, the 30-year-old instructor for Jobs for Maine Graduates left her pupils at 2:05 p.m. and was in the parking lot by 2:18 p.m. with her infant daughter, Bella.
“I was talking to my students and said, ‘I probably will not be here tomorrow because I think that I’m going to have this baby soon’,” she stated to Fox 4.
“Within the next 20 minutes, my contractions went from an hour apart to like five minutes apart.”
When Hildreth went to school that morning, she was full-term and had moderate contractions, but she was determined to postpone her maternity leave because her second child was due at the end of October.
She dismissed her class and promptly called her mother and the school nurse for assistance as her contractions, which were an hour apart at the beginning of the day, got more frequent as the day went on, according to local reports.
A contraction caused Hildreth’s mother, who works nearby, to arrive just in time for her daughter’s water to rupture and give birth in the parking lot before emergency medical personnel could get there.
She said, “I was able to get my pants down and then the baby came right then and there.” Her infant then jumped into the arms of the school nurse.
According to stories, Hildreth’s father, the captain of the Old Town Fire Department, was among the first to arrive on the scene and broke down in tears upon realizing the call was for his own daughter.

“My mom and I were both in shock. He’s the first one to respond to a maternity call that it was his daughter and that is probably true,” Hildreth stated to WABI.
“That’s some small-town stuff right there, I would say.”
The school posted pictures of the joyful family of four on Facebook to commemorate Hildreth’s unusual birth, writing that the “whole scene was an imperfectly perfect moment.”
After giving her pupils and coworkers a dignified farewell, Hildreth headed to the hospital with her infant.
