Missing Grandmother’s Body Found Near Pennsylvania Sinkhole After Days of Search

WPBN: According to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), the body of a 64-year-old grandma was discovered at the location of a large sinkhole four days after she vanished.

According to troopers, Elizabeth Pollard was last seen on Monday night in Unity Township while searching for her cat. Around 5:00 p.m., a witness noticed her strolling close to a restaurant. A relative called the police after she failed to come home by one in the morning.

PSP found Pollard’s vehicle behind the restaurant at around three in the morning. They observed that Pollard’s 5-year-old granddaughter was in the car, most likely for the eight hours that passed between Pollard’s last sighting and the arrival of the police.

Pennsylvania State Trooper Steve Limani stated on Tuesday, “We, at that point in time, realized this could be a very bad situation,”

He added that once authorities searched the area more thoroughly, they found a manhole-sized sinkhole 15 to 20 feet from the car.

According to him, after conducting more inspections of the area, the police discovered a sinkhole that was approximately the size of a manhole and was positioned approximately 15–20 feet away from the vehicle.

According to the Chief and Operations Officer of the Pleasant Unity Fire Department, John Bacha, sinkholes are not uncommon in the region because of subsidence, which is the progressive caving in of the ground caused by coal mining operations in the region.
