The Auburn Police Department reports that a missing Auburn woman who was abducted from her apartment at gunpoint has been discovered alive in Mexico.

The 21-year-old Jackelin Perez has returned to her home country of Guatemala and intends to remain there. Her pregnancy is six weeks along.

In relation to her kidnapping, one person has been taken into custody, but authorities suspect more.

On the evening of October 13, Perez disappeared, according to the Auburn Police Department. She was “taken from her home under duress,” according to the authorities, who did not think it was an isolated incident. Perez acknowledged being abducted at gunpoint, according to the police.

Perez, who speaks little English, and her spouse relocated to Auburn approximately four months ago. According to the police, she had previously resided in Guatemala but had only been in the United States for about a year.

According to the authorities, her husband called them the following day after returning home around twenty minutes after she was abducted.

“He didn’t call us until Monday morning,” Auburn Police Department public relations officer Kolby Crossley said. “So she was taken Sunday the 13th between 6 and 7 p.m., and then he didn’t call us until, I think 7 a.m. or so the next morning.”

One of the 24-year-old suspects in her disappearance was traced down by Auburn police, the FBI, and other agencies to Texas, where they were apprehended on October 19. Authorities are searching for additional individuals they suspect are involved.

Perez was taken to Mexico and then freed by the kidnappers, according to the police. They claimed they had no idea why they had decided to let her go there.

While police claimed that “illegal activity” was linked to the woman’s kidnapping, they denied being directly engaged.

“There is a lot the still go over,” Crossley stated. “But the good news is, the great news is, is that she was found and that she is safe.”
