Corpus Christi is a city by the sea in South Texas. Around 326,000 people live there. It’s famous for its beaches, aquarium, and navy base. However, it also has more crime compared to other places in the state and the country.
The FBI says there are 4,108.5 crimes for every 100,000 people in Corpus Christi. This is 75.13% higher than the national average and 52.65% higher than Texas’ average.
Out of these, 847 are violent crimes for every 100,000 people. This is 88.41% higher than the national average and 89.58% higher than Texas’ average. For property crimes, there are 3,148 for every 100,000 people. This is 70.64% higher than the national average and 39.93% higher than Texas’ average.
Different parts of the city have different levels of crime. Some areas are riskier than others. According to data from NeighborhoodScout, here are the five most dangerous neighborhoods in Corpus Christi:
Leopard Street / Nueces Bay Boulevard
This neighborhood has a high crime rate. Out of every 1,000 people, 142 have experienced a crime. This is one of the highest rates in the country. If you live here, there’s a one in seven chance of becoming a victim of either a violent or property crime. Specifically, one out of every 50 residents has been a victim of violent crime.
Additionally, this neighborhood has seen big changes recently because of the new Harbor Bridge Project. They tore down and rebuilt Leopard Street, turning it into a bridge that goes over the Crosstown Expressway.

Ayers Street / Horne Road
This area has a high crime rate compared to other places in the country. For every 1,000 people living here, 121 experience some form of crime. The chances of being a victim of either a violent or property-related crime here are one in eight. The rate of property-related crime is particularly high, with one out of every nine residents falling victim.
This neighborhood experiences frequent road closures and traffic disruptions because of different projects led by the City and AEP Texas. These projects involve making sidewalks safer, adding new turn lanes, maintaining utilities, and replacing water lines.

South Port Avenue / Baldwin Boulevard
This area has a high crime rate, with 111 incidents for every 1,000 people. This is one of the highest rates in the whole country. The odds of being a victim of a crime, whether it’s a violent or property crime, are one in nine. The rate of violent crime is particularly high, with one person out of every 63 falling victim.
Additionally, this neighborhood is where you’ll find the Art Museum of South Texas, situated at 101 Baldwin Boulevard. This museum displays art and cultural exhibits, as well as programs that highlight the local region’s art and heritage.

Port Avenue / Agnes Street
This area has a high crime rate compared to other places in the country. About 105 out of every 1,000 people experience some form of crime here. The chance of being a victim of either a violent or property crime is one in ten. Property crime, like theft or vandalism, is particularly common, affecting one out of every eleven residents.
The Corpus Christi Water Department (CCW) is currently working on improving the utilities in this neighborhood. A contractor is fixing the water pipes along Port Avenue and Comanche Street.

Morgan Avenue / Crosstown Expressway
This area has a high crime rate compared to other places in the country. About 103 out of every 1,000 people here experience some form of crime. The likelihood of being a victim of either a violent or property crime is one in ten.
Specifically, when it comes to violent crimes, one out of every 68 residents is affected. This neighborhood is included in a project to rebuild a one-mile stretch of road from Crosstown Expressway to Ocean Drive.
