“We’re just out here getting a little more practice turning,” she stated.

“I feel good it’s getting comfortable. I’m getting the hang of it,” her son, Shawn Seymore stated.

A reform to driver’s licenses was announced by the Department of Safety and Homeland Security in Tennessee.

Beginning on January 10, drivers applying for a Tennessee license who are moving from California, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Maine, Nevada, Oklahoma, Vermont, or West Virginia must additionally bring a copy of their Motor Vehicle Record.

“We’re trying to prevent fraud and also the safety of drivers,” Melody Rampy with the Department of Homeland Security stated. “Their whole purpose is to start with was one driver, one license.”

According to Rampy, these nine states have not yet joined the State-to-State Verification Service, or S2S, a nationwide database. It makes your driving record electronically accessible to Tennessee.

“There are a lot of drivers who try to transfer with a suspended license, and we don’t want to trade them a valid license here if they should be driving,” Rampy stated. “It’s just one of those things if it’s required, it feels like an inconvenience, but if you want your license then that’s what it takes.”

Given that her son will be joining them with his new permit, Shauna thought the change is worthwhile if it results in safer drivers on the road.

According to Rampy, it’s just a question of when those states will be included in the S2S. It’s also not a hard document to safeguard, according to the Tennessee Department of Homeland Security.

They provide a number of connections to state portals where you can obtain a copy of your MVR.
