The medical examiner’s office announced on Tuesday that Riley Strain, a college student from Missouri, died of accidental drowning and alcohol poisoning. Riley went missing after leaving a downtown Nashville pub, and his corpse was later discovered in a river.
On the morning of March 22, Strain’s body was discovered in West Nashville’s Cumberland River, a few miles from his disappearance site.
Two weeks prior, the University of Missouri student, 22, was in the city for a weekend excursion when he was ejected from a bar, according to the authorities.
According to the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Strain’s death is now officially being classified as accidental. The autopsy, which was made public on Tuesday, supports the conclusions of the department’s missing person detectives.
According to the autopsy report, Strain had a blood alcohol content of 0.228, which is nearly three times the permitted limit for driving. According to the investigation, he also had Delta-9 THC, a cannabis component, in his bloodstream.

On the evening of March 8, police discovered that Strain had “multiple alcoholic drinks” at various Nashville businesses, had lost contact with his buddies, and was “noticeably impaired” when he crossed Gay Street, which lies next to the Cumberland River.
Investigators came to a conclusion Walking in the dark and unfamiliar with the environment, strain stumbled into an overgrown area and fell down the steep hill that led to the river. The river was unusually high that night with a rapid current because of the previous rain, according to the police.
