HOLLYWOOD, Fla. —In Broward County, there was an accident on I-75 that killed a baby.
The Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) said the crash happened around 4:30 p.m. on Thursday in the northbound fast lanes of I-75, just north of Sheridan Street. Through the Miramar Pkwy North, all of the fast lanes were closed.
The driver of a 2016 black GMC, who was 35 years old, was illegally stopped between the northbound inside lane and the I-75 fast lanes.
The driver of a white Ford truck, who was 29 years old, was going north on the inside lane of I-75’s fast lanes.
Investigators say that the GMC driver seemed to be taking care of a baby in the backseat while she was stopped in the wrong place on the travel lane. The front of the Ford hit the back of the GMC all of a sudden.
FHP said that the GMC was pushed in the northwest direction and came to rest on the fast lanes of northbound I-75 against the concrete barrier wall.
The pickup truck also went toward the fast lanes, but it stopped in a safe way.
Fire relief said the baby, who was no more than 2 years old, was dead at the scene of the crash.
