BOCA RATON, Fla. – Following a vicious anti-semitic assault, the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office reports that they have made an arrest.
On Friday, deputies claim that Daniel Scanlan, 34, was shopping at a Walmart in Boca Raton when he struck another customer from behind.
After that, Scanlan reportedly grabbed the victim’s yarmulke while also using an ethnic epithet to refer to the victim.
Scanlan allegedly spit on the yarmulke before throwing it on the ground when he had finished doing so, according to the deputies.
After then, it is said that he struck the victim once more.
Someone else in the store saw what was going on and immediately attempted to assist.
Deputies stated Scanlan knocked her to the ground, yelled something profane at her, and then snatched the mobile phone out of her hands.
They added that Scanlan then drove off in a white Kia after leaving the site.
On Monday, he was placed into the custody of the Palm Beach County Detention Center after being placed under arrest.
Scanlan is facing charges of robbery as well as violence on a senior citizen or someone older than 65.
The PBSO has said that the charges will be evaluated, and it is possible that they could be categorized as hate crimes in the end.
